Even Adam Sandler has to work hard to get his teenage daughters’ attention.

On Monday, the actor, 57, was joined by his family as he walked the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie Spaceman, held at the Egyptian Theater.

While speaking to reporters, Adam was asked about sharing the screen with his daughters Sadie, 17, Sunny, 15, in multiple movies. Most recently, Sunny joined her dad as Anna in Spaceman, while he plays Jakub Prochazka, an astronaut on a solo mission to Jupiter.

When asked if casting his teen daughters in films is the best way to spend time with them, Adam admitted, “They still don’t talk to you. They go do their thing.” He added: “They do the best they can, and then they go do their life. I am on the side going, ‘Love you.’ I say I love you a lot to them.”

Sadie and Sunny have been working alongside their famous father for more than a decade now, regularly starring in films with their model-actress mother, Jackie, 49, as well. Jackie and Adam tied the knot in 2003.

The family recently starred together in the 2023 Netflix film You Are So Not Invited to My Bat MitzvahSadie and Sunny also voiced characters Jayda and Summer, respectively, alongside their dad, who voiced Leo, in the 2023 animated film Leo.

Spaceman sees Adam take on a more dramatic role, starring as astronaut Jakub alongside Carey Mulligan‘s Lenka.

“Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth,” a synopsis reads.

“Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.”

That creature, named Hanuš, is voiced by Paul Dano. He “works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late,” the synopsis continues.

Spaceman, directed by Johan Renck and written by Colby Day, is based on the 2017 book Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. The movie, which hits Netflix on March 1, also stars actors including Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin and Isabella Rossellini.
